Acting on the instructions of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, a party delegation set out on a field tour to the South that included MPs Saeed Al-Asmar, Nazih Matta, and Jihad Bakhardouni, alongside Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Georges Eid, head of the party’s crisis management cell in the South Jean El-Alam, and the party leader’s envoy to the Marjayoun and Hasbaya districts, Fadi Salameh. The tour aimed to reaffirm close follow-up on residents’ affairs and assess their needs amid the current circumstances.
The delegation began its tour with a visit to the Hasbani Union of Municipalities, where MP Al-Asmar said that this war had cost the South blood, economy, and future, but that this steadfastness proves that this land is Lebanese and will remain Lebanese. Al-Asmar added: “We hope those who are leading the country to destruction under any pretext will come to their senses and acknowledge that what they are doing is not a victory, but rather pushing Lebanon and its people toward the abyss and ruin.” He also stressed that peace is the way to protect the land and preserve its dignity.
The delegation then headed to the Greek Orthodox bishopric in Marjayoun and Hasbaya, where it met Metropolitan Elias Kfouri, who in turn saluted the Lebanese Forces and Dr. Samir Geagea for their positions, thanking the delegation for the visit amid the difficult circumstances the region is going through.
For his part, MP Matta said: “We salute the people of the South for their steadfastness, and we commend the role of the Church at this stage, given the essential role it plays in reinforcing people’s ability to remain and endure.” He added: “We came today to stand by your side, listen to your needs, and work together to meet them in a way that helps residents remain rooted in their land.”
The delegation then visited the Saydnaya Sisters convent, where the nuns thanked the delegation for the visit and praised the role of the Lebanese Forces at this stage.
After that, the delegation moved to the municipality of Rashaya Al-Foukhar, where it met members of the municipal council and a number of residents from the Arqoub area, who thanked the Lebanese Forces for this initiative, affirming their commitment to the state option and their full support for everything Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji is doing.
In turn, MP Al-Asmar stressed that the Lebanese Forces would remain by the side of the people of Arqoub, affirming that the state option is the best way to protect Lebanon. He also considered that the outcome of this war had led to Israel’s occupation of around 65 Lebanese towns and villages.
The tour concluded in Kawkaba, where residents hosted a luncheon in honor of the delegation. Speeches were delivered by the episcopal vicar in the Maronite Diocese of Tyre, Kawkaba parish priest Father Georges Nahra, and Assaf Abu Naqqoul, head of the Lebanese Forces center in Kawkaba. They stressed the importance of solidarity among the Lebanese and praised the visit carried out by the Lebanese Forces delegation under these difficult circumstances.
This tour comes within the framework of direct communication with the people of the region and its local figures, and as an affirmation of the Lebanese Forces’ presence alongside residents and its support for their steadfastness at various levels.
