Washington Draws Red Lines in Hormuz: No Fees on Ships and No Iranian Influence Over the International Waterway

A U.S. official confirmed that the ongoing understandings بشأن the Strait of Hormuz do not include imposing any fees or financial burdens on transiting vessels, stressing that any potential agreement is limited to regulating coordination mechanisms among the parties concerned to ensure the safety of maritime traffic.

The official, in remarks carried by Western media outlets, explained that the United States categorically rejects any proposal that would impose restrictions on ship movement in the strait, considering it an international waterway that must remain open to global trade, free from any attempts at domination or control.

He added that some Iranian demands related to the strait are viewed by Washington as "excessive," noting that they are not accepted by the United States, the Sultanate of Oman, or other international parties concerned with maritime security.
