President Joseph Aoun stressed, during his reception of a delegation from the board of directors of the Al-Amiliyah Association, that the current phase requires giving precedence to the logic of the state and striving to consolidate security and stability, while continuing efforts to restore Lebanon’s rights and end the repercussions of the war, affirming his determination to raise the Lebanese file with US President Donald Trump and push for the implementation of commitments related to the south.
President Aoun said:
“The army and the state are capable of protecting the Lebanese, not parties, sectarianism or confessionalism. This is what we have experienced since 1975 until today.”
“The disappeared Imam Sayyed Moussa al-Sadr was the first to stand against the violation of the south for causes that were not Lebanese.”
“The people of the south are weary and deserve to live in safety and stability, instead of seeing their property and lands destroyed every so often and their children martyred. Why must Lebanon and the south always pay the price?”
“The objective goals on which all Lebanese agree are: withdrawal, the return of the displaced, the return of prisoners and bodies, and reconstruction. This path must be tried after the path of war has failed.”
“Based on my responsibilities as President of all Lebanon, I affirm that I will not relinquish the south or Lebanon’s rights. Therefore, there is insistence on Israel’s withdrawal from all Lebanese territories and on its signing a declaration that it has no ambitions in Lebanon.”
“I will ask US President Donald Trump to exert the necessary pressure on Israel to implement what was agreed upon in the ‘framework formula’ and the Lebanese demands, and to make use, at present, of the US administration’s desire to achieve peace in the region and strengthen Lebanon’s position in this regard.”
