Syria is preparing to participate for the first time in the G7 summit, scheduled to be held in France next month, as a guest, in a notable development in Damascus’s international diplomatic presence. President Ahmed al-Sharaa will represent the country.
Informed sources said the invitation was extended to the Syrian side through Finance Minister Mohammed Yosr Barnieh during his participation in the group’s financial meetings in the French capital, Paris. The summit is set to be held from June 15 to 17 in the city of Evian-les-Bains.
According to the sources, Damascus intends to present its vision of its potential role as a pivotal hub in regional and international supply chains, in light of the economic repercussions stemming from disruptions to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and their impact on global trade flows.
