The Beirut Order of Physicians in Lebanon issued the following statement:
"In light of the difficult economic conditions Lebanon is going through, and out of the Beirut Order of Physicians’ commitment to protecting doctors and ensuring the continuity of their role as the first line of defense in confronting wars, crises, and epidemics, the Order succeeded this year in finalizing doctors’ insurance contract without imposing any additional burdens or costs on its members, despite the fact that most insurance companies raised their prices by between 15% and 40%, and despite the increase in insurance policy costs in a number of other syndicates and bodies.
Proceeding from his responsibility toward the medical community, Physicians’ Syndicate President Professor Elias Shalala undertook efforts to ease the living and health-related burdens weighing on Lebanese doctors, out of his conviction that providing health and social protection for doctors constitutes a fundamental national and health duty, especially at this delicate stage the healthcare sector in Lebanon is going through."
