Foreign Minister and Emigrants Youssef Rajji left Beirut for Rome and the Vatican on an official visit carrying significant political and diplomatic dimensions, amid international momentum supporting Lebanon’s stability and strengthening the presence of the state.
Rajji is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, in addition to Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The talks will focus on developments in Lebanon and international support for its legitimate institutions.
The visit comes amid repeated positions voiced by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, calling for the consolidation of peace in Lebanon, alongside the quiet role played by the Holy See in pushing for the establishment of a strong state that preserves human dignity and enshrines Lebanon as a space for freedom and civilizational and religious encounter.
On the Italian side, the meetings will address the role Rome plays within the European Union in supporting Lebanon’s stability, in addition to the file of ongoing military assistance to the Lebanese Army and Italy’s prominent contribution within the UNIFIL forces.
Rajji is also expected to discuss with Tajani any future Lebanese vision related to the mission of the international forces south of the Litani, whether through strengthening their current role or proposing formulas that support stability and security in the region.
