
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations authority announced on Friday that a security incident had targeted an oil tanker off the coast of the Sultanate of Oman after the vessel was struck by a projectile of unknown origin.
The authority said in a statement that the incident occurred about 19 nautical miles east of the Omani city of Khasab, noting that the tanker was hit on the port side of its bow, causing minor structural damage.
The authority confirmed that none of the crew members were harmed and that no environmental consequences were recorded as a result of the incident, adding that the vessel continued sailing toward its next destination.
It added that the relevant authorities had launched investigations to uncover the circumstances of the incident and determine the source of the projectile and those responsible for it.
