U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that “Iran has not responded to a plan to end the war, but it has sent ‘messages’ indicating interest in diplomacy.”
Speaking to reporters after G7 talks in Paris, Rubio said: “We have not received the answer yet.”
He added: “We exchanged messages and signals from the Iranian regime regarding their willingness to discuss certain matters.”
Rubio noted that “Washington expects to achieve its war objectives in Iran within the next two weeks, regardless of whether the United States deploys ground troops or not.”
He continued: “When we are done with them over the next two weeks, they will be in the weakest state in their modern history.”
He also pointed out that he “made progress with allies in opposing Iranian threats to impose transit fees on ships passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.”
Rubio emphasized that “there was broad support among participants in the meeting to counter this Iranian approach, which is not only illegal but also unacceptable, posing a danger to the world. It is important for the world to have a plan to confront it.”
