The following statement was issued by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
“The State of Qatar expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the statements made by the military spokesperson for the Houthi group accusing the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of besieging the brotherly Yemeni people and banning maritime navigation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722 on the rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. It affirms that freedom of navigation in international waterways is a fundamental principle of international law and of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar’s full solidarity with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty and security. It stresses that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of the State of Qatar and the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council states.”
