Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is heading to Islamabad amid reports of an imminent resumption of talks with Washington, with sources saying U.S. security teams are in Pakistan to pave the way for a new round of negotiations.
Iran’s official news agency IRNA confirmed that “Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Islamabad on Friday for talks regarding the war with the United States and Israel.”
It said Araghchi “will begin a regional tour on Friday evening, during which he will visit Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow.”
It added that “the purpose of this visit is to hold bilateral consultations, discuss ongoing developments in the region, and review the situation related to the war being waged by the United States and Israel against Iran.”
The Pakistani capital has for days been preparing for a second round of talks between the United States and Iran, though it remains unclear whether Abbas Araghchi will meet with U.S. officials.
Three sources said that “peace talks between Iran and the United States could resume soon in Pakistan.”
Two of the sources said that “a U.S. logistical and security support team is already in Pakistan in preparation for the potential talks.”
