At the start of next week, Minister of Information, lawyer Dr. Paul Morcos, will continue his contacts and efforts in pursuit of protecting journalists and media professionals from Israeli attacks.
To this end, he will hold a series of meetings at his office at the Ministry of Information, most notably:
- At 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Monday, with the Beirut Bar Association Council headed by Bar President Imad Martinos, to strengthen the legal file. He will also receive at 2:00 p.m. Lebanese Press Syndicate President Aouni Kaaki, before meeting at 3:00 p.m. French Ambassador Hervé Magro, accompanied by political adviser Romain Calvari and media adviser Marwan Al-Taybi, to continue diplomatic support for the protection of Lebanese journalists and media professionals.
- In the same context, Minister Morcos will continue his meetings next Tuesday, receiving at 1:00 p.m. a delegation from UNESCO’s regional office headed by office director Paolo Fantoni, before meeting at 2:00 p.m. the representative of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) in the Middle East, Levon Amirjanyan.
- These contacts come within the framework of the moves undertaken by Minister Morcos over the past few days with the head of the European Union Delegation to Lebanon, Ambassador Sandra de Waele, and a number of ambassadors and representatives of EU member states in Lebanon; with UNIFIL spokesperson Candice Ardell and its media officer Danny Ghafri; with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert; and with UNESCO’s regional office in Beirut. He handed all of them protest memoranda that Minister Morcos had addressed to the Human Rights Council in Geneva through Lebanon’s Permanent Representative to the Council, Ambassador Caroline Ziadeh; to UNESCO in Paris through Lebanon’s Permanent Delegate to the organization, Ambassador Hind Darwish; and to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, Morris Tidball-Binz. The protest memoranda submitted by Minister Morcos were prepared in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants and were also deposited with the International Humanitarian Law Committee. It is worth noting that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, will soon visit Lebanon at the invitation of the Lebanese government to assess the situation on the ground and conduct an inquiry into the Israeli attacks.
- It is also noted that the Lebanese government had issued a decision, at the request of Minister Morcos, during its latest session chaired by President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun on April 23, 2026, assigning Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tarek Mitri to the case of the killing of journalist Amal Khalil and the wounding of photographer Zeinab Faraj, in addition to the Cabinet decision dated April 2, 2026, issued at the request of Minister Morcos, assigning Minister Mitri the file of Israeli attacks against Lebanese journalists, media professionals, and medical and ambulance crews.
