American sources told MTV that the United States is no longer dealing with the Lebanese file under the logic of “open-ended time,” considering the current phase to be delicate and decisive, and one that requires Lebanon to make a clear political decision: either seize the opportunity on offer or return to a scene of security explosion and escalation.
According to the sources, the US administration is handling the current developments on the basis of pushing toward a direct settlement with Israel, with the issue of disarmament as its central clause, within a vision Washington sees as an entry point to reorganizing the political and security reality in the region.
The sources indicated that US President Donald Trump is pursuing a policy of “separating tracks,” without waiting for Saudi or Iranian positions, and is imposing a rapid pace on the Lebanese arena, noting that there is an American desire to hold a public political meeting between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in front of the media.
The sources also revealed efforts led by the US ambassador in Beirut to arrange a visit by President Aoun to the White House, at a time when the US administration considers any delay in this visit to be interpreted as an attempt to stall and buy time.
