French President Emmanuel Macron voiced concern over the future of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, amid ongoing military operations that could jeopardize the path toward de-escalation.
In a position reflecting international fears of a renewed deterioration in the situation, Macron called for ensuring protection for civilians on both sides of the border, stressing the importance of respecting sovereign rules and halting escalation.
He also addressed the issue of weapons and their role in complicating the situation, calling for reciprocal steps that would help consolidate stability and prevent a slide into a new confrontation.
His statements included:
“I call for guaranteeing the safety of civilian populations on both sides of the border between Lebanon and Israel.”
“Hezbollah must lay down its arms, and Israel must respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and stop the war.”
