The President of the Republic welcomed the U.S.–Iran announcement of a 15-day ceasefire, commending the efforts of all parties that contributed to reaching this agreement, particularly Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey. He expressed hope that this step would pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting agreement addressing the root causes of instability in the region, in a manner that preserves the sovereignty of all states. He emphasized that violence is not an effective means of resolving disputes between nations, and that the ultimate purpose of governments is to ensure the well-being of their peoples and their right to a dignified and free life—not to drive them toward senseless and futile conflict.
The President also reaffirmed Lebanon’s ongoing efforts to be included in a stable and lasting regional peace, in line with the national consensus on full state sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, the liberation of any occupied land, and the exclusive authority of constitutional institutions over decisions of war and peace and the use of legitimate force.
He stressed that this remains the sole responsibility of the Lebanese state in any negotiations aimed at securing the country’s national interest.
