Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced that a group of seven women and 12 children linked to ISIS fighters has left Syria, where they had spent years in the Roj camp under Kurdish forces’ control, and is on its way to Australia.
Burke confirmed that the Australian women, known as “Islamic State brides,” will receive no assistance from the Australian government, stressing that “anyone in this group who has committed crimes will face the maximum penalty provided by law.”
He added: “They made a horrific decision to join a dangerous terrorist organization and placed their children in indescribable conditions.”
