
Syrian transitional president Ahmed al-Sharaa announced that Syria’s participation in the 79th World Health Assembly reflects its gradual return to an active presence in international discussions related to health security, amid a recovery path that Damascus is seeking to consolidate.
In a recorded address to the assembly convened in Geneva, al-Sharaa stressed that global health challenges require stronger international cooperation and placing human health at the top of priorities, affirming that the Syrian vision is based on the principle of “Human Health First.”
He noted that his country is working to develop a sustainable health and environmental system in parallel with reconstruction efforts, pointing to Syria’s commitment to the camps file within a vision extending through 2027, as part of addressing the humanitarian, environmental, and health repercussions of the crisis.
Al-Sharaa also affirmed that Syria is moving toward building international partnerships based on the exchange of expertise and the strengthening of capacities, in a way that supports the health sector and enhances the country’s position within joint global efforts in this field.
