Al-Sharaa said that Syria is “writing a new history that reflects its civilization, values, and heritage,” calling on council members to serve as a model in shouldering responsibility and to make the legislative institution a platform for truth and justice and a voice for the people.
He pointed out that the coming phase requires prioritizing the national interest and working in a spirit of teamwork, emphasizing that building the state and serving citizens must be the standard for every decision and policy.
The Syrian president noted that rebuilding the economy, improving services, and creating an attractive environment for investment represent a shared national responsibility among the various state institutions, foremost among them the People’s Assembly.
Al-Sharaa concluded his remarks by stressing the need for the assembly to help entrench dialogue and respect for institutions, expressing his hope that it would be “a platform for wisdom, a pillar of support for the state, and a voice for the people.”
The first session of the People’s Assembly began in the presence of President al-Sharaa, assembly members, and the head of the Higher Committee for Assembly Elections, as members took the oath, signaling the start of a new political and constitutional phase in Syria.
