President Joseph Aoun welcomed the signing by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV of the decree declaring the Venerable Patriarch Elias Huwayek, founder of Greater Lebanon, Blessed.
While thanking the Holy Father, on behalf of Lebanon, its government and people, for his constant concern for Lebanon, especially amid the delicate circumstances and major challenges it is going through, President Aoun stressed that this declaration today in particular, on the centenary of the proclamation of Lebanon’s Constitution, comes as a sign that the divine providence by whose guidance the new Blessed long worked is what preserves Greater Lebanon as he envisioned it and strove hard to achieve it: a homeland of harmony among the various sects, within its “historical and civilizational” borders.
President Aoun expressed hope that the Lebanese, of all affiliations, would draw inspiration from the spirit of work that inspired the new Blessed so that their homeland remains the focus of the Holy See and the world, and triumphs over all the challenges surrounding it.
