A US military delegation has arrived in Lebanon, where it has begun a series of meetings with the Lebanese army command to discuss the implementation steps related to the framework agreement signed between Beirut and Tel Aviv in Washington, particularly with regard to the mechanism for the Israeli army’s withdrawal from the first “pilot” area in southern Lebanon.
A Lebanese military source told Agence France-Presse that the delegation’s visit comes as part of practical preparations for the deployment of the Lebanese army in the southern areas, noting that the main task is to turn the provisions of the agreement into field measures that can be implemented.
The source explained that the next phase is focused on putting in place the technical and logistical arrangements necessary to carry out the initial Israeli withdrawal from a specified area, in preparation for completing the subsequent steps related to strengthening the Lebanese army’s deployment in the south.
These moves come amid US efforts to accompany the implementation of the field understandings between Lebanon and Israel and to ensure that the agreed measures move from the political framework to practical reality on the ground.
