French President Emmanuel Macron warned of the possibility of rising tensions across the Middle East amid the rapid developments unfolding in the region, noting that the situation remains delicate and could see further escalation in the coming period.
He said that “groups close to Iran may resume their activities in the region.”
Macron explained that Paris has taken precautionary measures to protect its citizens, adding that “France has sent an aircraft carrier to the Middle East to help evacuate its nationals.”
He also indicated that efforts are currently focused on ensuring the security of vital maritime routes, pointing to “work to ensure freedom of navigation in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, and the Bab el-Mandeb.”
Assessing the course of the military developments, he stressed that “France does not see the war ending in the coming days and believes it could last for weeks,” while warning of “the risk of escalation in the region, as the situation is extremely fragile.”
