As President of the Republic Joseph Aoun raised the ceiling of his positions against critics of the decision to engage in direct negotiations with Israel, a tripartite meeting between the president, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam is expected to be held very soon, possibly tomorrow, Wednesday, to narrow differences and agree on a single principle and a single program for negotiations, before a new date is set for the meeting between Lebanon’s ambassador in Washington, Nada Hamadeh Mouawad, and Israel’s ambassador, Yechiel Leiter, under direct American presence and sponsorship.
Al Liwaa learned from official sources that the date of the next meeting between the two ambassadors has not yet been set, especially as Israel continues to violate the agreement extending the truce announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, while Lebanon rejects negotiating under fire and in this escalatory atmosphere. However, President Aoun is conducting direct and indirect contacts with the U.S. State Department and with friendly and brotherly countries concerned with the situation in Lebanon, in order to put an end to the escalation so that negotiations can begin in a calm and normal atmosphere.
