Energy and Water Minister Joe Saddi wrote on his account on the X platform:
“No more playing smart, and no more claiming that we are asking for an advance or borrowing. We have not cost the state a single lira since we took over the Energy Ministry. Some must stop misleading people and projecting onto others the consequences of their own actions that destroyed the electricity sector.
The funds we have asked the state to pay, during Cabinet sessions and for more than a month, are overdue obligations owed by state institutions to Electricité du Liban, not debt and not an advance. The state has also not compensated for the value of exemptions from electricity and water fees that it approved for southern areas because of the war.
These are the obligations of the state and its institutions through 2025. Let payment begin starting next week, to confront the repercussions of rising global oil prices and to ensure the continuity of the electricity sector.”
