U.S. President Donald Trump sent a direct message to Hezbollah as the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel entered into force, in a move reflecting international anticipation over the course of de-escalation in the coming days.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump expressed hope that the group would abide by the spirit of the current phase, stressing the importance of this moment in the path toward reducing tensions.
He also voiced optimism about the possibility of making tangible progress toward stability, considering that the ongoing developments could mark a positive turning point for Lebanon.
This comes as a 10-day ceasefire took effect starting at midnight Thursday, Beirut time, amid hopes that it could pave the way for a broader and more sustainable agreement.
He said:
“I hope Hezbollah behaves properly and well during this important period.”
“It will be a great moment for them if they do. Enough killing. Peace must finally prevail.”
“It could be a historic day for Lebanon. Positive things are happening.”
