The Lebanese Army received a grant provided through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the European Union, during a ceremony held at the Logistics Brigade Command in Kfarchima, as part of efforts to support the army’s capabilities in humanitarian demining.
The ceremony was attended by EU Ambassador Sandra De Waele, UNDP Resident Representative Blerta Aliko, as well as the representative of Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Brigadier General Haidar Skineh, and a number of officers.
During the event, De Waele spoke of her "pride in the European Union’s partnership with Lebanon in humanitarian demining operations over the years," stressing the "continued support for the army in this field through strengthened cooperation with the Lebanese Mine Action Center and the Engineering Regiment."
For her part, Aliko said that "this grant contributes to enhancing Lebanon’s ability to respond safely and effectively to the threat of unexploded ordnance, protect civilians, and support stabilization efforts."
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations presented De Waele with a letter of thanks on behalf of the Army Commander, praising "the role of the United Nations Development Programme and the European Union in supporting the army during this exceptional phase."
