Member of the “Strong Republic” bloc, MP Ghiyath Yazbeck, issued the following statement:
“With the killing of our comrade Pierre Mouawad and his wife, it can be asserted that the logic of the state has collapsed, the logic of security has collapsed, the logic of law has collapsed, the logic of justice has collapsed, the logic of hospitality has collapsed, and the logic of protection and refuge has collapsed.
The prevailing logic has become that of ‘imposition,’ the logic of disrespecting the host, and the logic of the mini-state that is expanding like a cancer at the expense of a timid, weakened, and self-undermined state lacking immunity.
This has turned the country into an abstract painting of chaos, streaked with blood, anxiety, and grief.
What deepens the pain and anguish is that if our beloved Pierre had known that his death would mark the rebirth of peace, security, and stability, he would have sacrificed himself as atonement for all Lebanese. But he knew, as all patriots do, that the cycle of death will not stop, and that the list of victims—boasted of and expanded daily by Iran’s party with Lebanese blood—will only grow longer, all in service of its criminal Persian patron. With blatant disregard, it has already begun dragging tragedy upon innocent people in the warmth of their homes and among their families in other communities.
Since the perpetrator is known, and those who bring in the perpetrators and death are known, it is no longer acceptable for the state and its agencies to remain hesitant—protecting no innocent, naming no culprit, and deterring no aggressor.
They have become like undertakers, whose role ends with carrying out burials. Urgently, we call on the army—after its reduced role in the south and its reluctance to confront Iran’s party internally to avoid a presumed ‘strife’—to intensify its presence in areas that adhere to legitimate security and recognize the state as the sole authority, in order to strengthen their protection from irresponsible infiltrations by fighters of Iran’s party, who enter without regard for the dangers they bring upon these regions.
For the record, we say that the civil war, whose bitterness we have all endured, is also the result of official negligence and incompetence, not merely the product of plots and conspiracies.”
