The Ministry of Agriculture has launched a series of national consultations aimed at advancing the olive and olive oil sector in Lebanon, during a consultative meeting organized in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Tripoli and North Lebanon, with the participation of representatives from the various stakeholders in the sector.
The meeting focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors, develop the olive production chain, improve the quality of Lebanese olive oil, as well as apply the required standards and combat fraud, in a way that helps enhance marketing opportunities locally and abroad.
The ministry also reviewed the recommendations of the National Olive Oil Committee, which include developing traceability systems, supporting specialized laboratories, raising productivity levels, and working to open new markets for Lebanese products.
The meeting featured extensive discussions on the challenges facing farmers and producers, and on ways to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness amid economic changes.
The Ministry of Agriculture stressed that this step marks the beginning of a consultative process that will include various Lebanese regions, leading up to the National Olive Oil Conference scheduled for November 26, where practical measures will be announced to support farmers and consolidate the presence of Lebanese olive oil in global markets.
