Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Taymour Joumblatt continued his talks with political forces, meeting at Parliament with MP Abdel Rahman Bizri, followed by MPs Ibrahim Mneimneh and Melhem Khalaf, in the presence of Democratic Gathering members MPs Akram Chehayeb, Wael Abou Faour, and Raji Saad.
During both meetings, the Democratic Gathering stressed that it is the duty of the Lebanese state to protect Lebanon, liberate its land, and restore stability, pointing to the importance of the negotiating track and the need to reach a security agreement, similar to the armistice agreement or an updated version of it, in order to achieve a final ceasefire.
The Democratic Gathering also underscored the need to stifle inciting rhetoric and shut the door to any internal strife. MP Taymour Joumblatt reaffirmed adherence to the Taif Agreement, which established the principle that arms must be exclusively in the hands of the Lebanese state, adding that he will continue his tour with further meetings aimed at creating a national safety net to protect Lebanon.
