Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the attacks targeting American sites and bases in the Gulf region fall, in its words, within the framework of "legitimate self-defense," rejecting attempts to hold Tehran responsible for the regional escalation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that what is taking place in the region is not a passing military confrontation, but rather an "extension of a blatant and unjustified aggression" launched by the United States and Israel on February 28, according to his wording.
Baghaei added, in a message addressed to the spokesman for the United Nations secretary-general, that the Iranian strikes against American bases and assets in the Gulf constitute the exercise of a "legal and legitimate right to defend sovereignty," stressing that ignoring what he described as attacks on Iran while focusing only on its responses reflects an irresponsible stance that is inconsistent with the principles of international law.
