The Association of Basic Education Teachers issued a statement addressing teachers’ conditions and rights in the post-war period, stressing its adherence to its financial demands and rejecting any procrastination in addressing them.
It said: “It will not be lenient regarding teachers’ rights when it comes to paying 6 salary multipliers in the very near term, and it called on the government to approve the salary scale. We will not give the government much time and will take a stance before the end of the current month.”
It added: “After the war has laid down its burdens within the framework of a temporary truce that we hope will last, we ask mercy for the martyrs and healing for the wounded, and we congratulate those returning to their homes on their safe return.”
It expressed thanks and appreciation to “school principals, heads of shelter centers, and the work team, for the efforts you made during the war period, especially in receiving the displaced from among the people of the nation.”
It continued: “You were the masters and leaders within the framework of social solidarity, and you lived up to expectations as proactive leaders who know what must be done. Hats off to you, as you embraced the displaced, doubled your work in distance education, and carried the concerns of the citizens and the الوطن. The Association sees in you the leaders of the nation, as you were the factor of unity in a time of division, and you proved that teachers in public education are the embodiment of the values they instill in children, whether in solidarity, public service, or coexistence.”
It went on: “As we value this humanitarian work, we call on the Ministry of Education to issue certificates of appreciation to each one of you. We also demand that the allowances be fair and commensurate with the value of the fatigue, effort, and responsibility you bore over a month and a half, especially since some will continue hosting displaced people who have so far been unable to return to their villages.”
It concluded by stressing that it “will not be lenient regarding teachers’ rights when it comes to paying 6 salary multipliers in the very near term and demanding that the government approve the salary scale, after it used the war as a pretext for delay and procrastination. It will not wait long and will take its stance before the end of the current month.”
