MP Ibrahim Kanaan stressed from Bkerki that solidarity with Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi in the face of the recent campaign against him is solidarity with Lebanon as a whole, emphasizing that the patriarch represents the national constants that the Lebanese seek in order to save the country.
Kanaan considered that the call for neutrality comes within the framework of efforts to protect Lebanon after it was turned into an arena of conflicts serving external interests. He pointed out that Bkerki carries the concerns of all Lebanese, especially in light of the displacement, migration, and destruction taking place in the south, and that the Church remains a unifying institution for all its members from different sects.
He called for awareness and responsibility to save the country, questioning the usefulness of surrendering the national decision to any external party, and stressing the importance of negotiation to restore rights, foremost among them reclaiming the land, securing the return of the displaced, and safeguarding Lebanon’s dignity.
