The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday the arrest of a cell including leaders from the “Hasm” movement, which had been planning operations targeting security and economic facilities. This action comes as part of ongoing efforts by the security forces to track and neutralize elements that threaten public safety.
The ministry explained that a raid on the suspects’ hideouts in Giza Governorate on July 7, 2025, led to an exchange of gunfire, resulting in the death of two wanted individuals, the death of a civilian, and the injury of an officer.
In a related development, the security forces tracked down fugitive leader Ali Mahmoud Mohammed Abdel-Wanis, sentenced to life imprisonment on terrorism charges. Investigations revealed his involvement in planning and executing operations targeting facilities and public figures.
The suspect also admitted to participating in military training abroad, carrying out bombings and assassinations, and recruiting new members to join the organization.
