Kuwait’s Al-Anbaa revealed that the heads of the religious sects have agreed to hold the Islamic-Christian spiritual summit after the blessed Eid al-Adha, on June 2, at the Druze community headquarters in Verdun.
There had been efforts to convene the summit before the holiday, but several factors emerged, foremost among them the attacks on Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Al-Rahi, who represents a unifying national authority, in addition to waiting to see where negotiations to end the war in Lebanon would lead.
The Islamic-Christian Dialogue Committee is continuing its contacts with the heads of the sects regarding the draft statement ahead of the summit, for fear of any divergence of opinion during the meeting over any of the expected decisions, "which will be marked by a high level of precision, clarity of vision, and a frank addressing of the issues at this difficult stage Lebanon is going through," according to one committee member.
