Authorities in Mauritania have started enforcing a new measure that restricts the movement of cars within cities during nighttime hours. The decision is part of a broader set of economic and social measures aimed at addressing the rising prices of gas and fuel.
According to a government announcement made at a press conference, the restriction applies daily from midnight until 5:00 a.m., with motorcycles used for delivery services and emergencies exempted to ensure essential services continue uninterrupted.
Officials emphasized that the measure is intended to regulate the market and reduce fuel consumption, stressing that it should not be considered a curfew but a temporary traffic regulation in response to the current economic situation.
