The Wall Street Journal, citing officials, revealed that Iran has put forward a new initiative through mediators that would open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for ending the war and lifting the blockade imposed on it, in an attempt to revive the negotiating track.
According to the information, the proposal put forward by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is aimed at breaking the stalemate and launching a new round of talks, while including a clause that would postpone discussion of the nuclear program to a later stage.
The sources said that Washington has so far not provided an official response to the Iranian offer, while Tehran stressed to mediators that it remains committed to preserving its influence in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian proposal includes a three-stage plan, beginning with a halt to the war and guarantees that it will not resume, paving the way for subsequent steps within a broader settlement process.
