MP Ibrahim Kanaan wrote on his X account:
“Day after day, test after test, the credibility of the international community in respecting its commitments and obligations under international charters continues to fall. This is particularly true regarding the Geneva Conventions, which mandate the provision of humanitarian corridors and the protection of civilian populations (notably the Fourth Geneva Convention, Articles 23, 55, 56, and 59), as well as international resolutions—especially Resolution 1701, Articles 11 and 12—which call for ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians and the protection of civilians at imminent risk in UNIFIL areas.
We join the voice of the Maronite Bishops’ Council in supporting our steadfast people on their land, and we call on the Lebanese government to immediately approach the UN Security Council and the United Nations to ensure the implementation of their obligations.”
