President Joseph Aoun, during his meeting with the "Parliamentary Committee for the Protection of Civilian Sites and the Prevention of Systematic Destruction":
Contacts are underway to extend the ceasefire deadline, and I will spare no effort to end the abnormal conditions Lebanon is currently experiencing.
In all the contacts and follow-ups I undertake, preserving Lebanese sovereignty over the entire territory is my foremost goal. The negotiations being prepared are based on completely halting Israeli attacks, securing an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, the return of captives, the deployment of the army up to the international borders, and the start of reconstructing what was destroyed during this war.
The American support conveyed to us by President Donald Trump, in addition to the backing of brotherly and friendly countries, has provided us with an opportunity that we must not squander, because it may not come again.
The return of the displaced to their villages is among the priorities, especially since the people of the South, along with the people of Lebanon, have grown weary of wars and suffering over the past decades. The state will provide every facilitation to ensure this return with dignity and pride.
