Road Between Qaraoun–Sahmar–Mashghara Cut Near Qaraoun Dam… Litani Authority Clarifies Status of Dam Structures

The National Litani River Authority announced in a statement that an incident near the Qaraoun Dam caused significant damage to the main road linking Qaraoun, Sahmar, and Mashghara, resulting in the closure of this vital route to traffic and transportation in the area.
The statement confirmed that no damage was recorded in the dam’s facilities or in the body of the Qaraoun Dam, stressing that the impact was limited to the adjacent roadway.

It further explained that a second impact site near the dam is located about 500 meters from the first, noting that the force of the explosion caused rocks and debris to scatter into Lake Qaraoun. However, the damage remained confined to the road and surrounding area, with no direct structural impact on the dam itself.

The authority added that specialized technical teams will conduct a field inspection and comprehensive structural assessment of the dam and surrounding installations to verify their integrity and evaluate any potential effects resulting from the two incidents.
