Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam received a delegation from the Union of Akkar Municipalities.
After the meeting, Adnan Melhem, head of the Jumeh Municipalities Union, said on behalf of the delegation:
"We were honored to meet with the Prime Minister to stand by his side at this stage, which requires all Lebanese to be in one position and on one front. Of course, we conveyed to him Akkar’s well-known demands stemming from deprivation, and he pointed to an important issue when he said that if we want to define deprived regions, Akkar is the most prominent example.
He confirmed to us that work is underway on several files, foremost among them the President Rene Moawad Airport project. He set May 13 of this month as the date for issuing the tender specifications, and within a period of 90 days, work at the airport will begin.
This is the good news announced by the Prime Minister, with the hope that during his visit to the North next week it will be accompanied by a clear agenda that includes projects for Akkar and for the northern regions."
