A statement was issued by Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, saying:
Whoever dared yesterday to demolish the school, the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Savior, and St. George Church in Yaroun, to smash the statue of السيد المسيح (peace be upon him) in Debel, and before that to demolish the historic Grand Mosque in the city of Bint Jbeil, and today the Husseini club in the town of Doueir, is the only victor in the Lebanese being divided from their rightful cause and, God forbid, in their fighting among themselves.
He said: Beware, and again beware, of persisting in a sedition that God has cursed whoever awakens it. National responsibility requires everyone to work to bury it, not to fan its flames.
He added: The judicial authorities are called upon to move immediately to hold accountable whoever insults and shows contempt for the sanctity and dignity of the messages of earth and heaven.
He continued: At this moment, everyone is called upon to realize that love of God is not compatible with hatred of human beings. It is enough for us all to recall His Almighty saying: In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that God is severe in punishment}. God Almighty has spoken the truth.
