Regarding what was stated by U.S. President Donald J. Trump about a ceasefire between the United States and Iran:
“Based on discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who requested that I delay the destructive force that was scheduled to be launched against Iran tonight, and on the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the full, immediate, and secure opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I have agreed to suspend the bombing and military operations against Iran for a period of two weeks. This will constitute a ceasefire from both sides.
The reason for this is that we have achieved and exceeded all military objectives, and we are very close to reaching a final agreement for long-term peace with Iran, as well as peace in the Middle East. We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which we believe forms a viable basis for negotiation.
Most of the previous points of disagreement between the United States and Iran have been resolved, and the two-week period will allow for the completion and finalization of the agreement.
As President of the United States, and also as a representative of the countries of the Middle East, it is my honor that this long-standing issue is now close to being resolved. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
