Ali Fayyad, MP for the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, stressed that “developments have shown that the Lebanese authorities have slipped into the abyss of direct negotiations, which now resemble the predicament in which they are floundering, committing themselves to dangerous concessions without any gains, and within a horizon whose repercussions are grave for the entire Lebanese reality, both state and society.”
In a statement, Fayyad said that “what the Israelis seek is to push the Lebanese toward an explosion of open conflict among themselves, in order to turn the Lebanese entity into fragments, making it easier for them to carve off part of Lebanese territory, stir partitionist tendencies, and reshape the Lebanese reality in its entirety in a way that suits Israeli aspirations and falls within the sphere of Israeli influence.”
He considered that “the Israelis are fully aware that the authorities do not have the ability to implement what they commit to, and in every round of negotiations they extract additional concessions, then turn these concessions into obligations they demand the Lebanese authorities carry out. It is clear that this series will not end until the Lebanese reality is pushed toward explosion. All the while, Israeli attacks continue through massacres, destruction, bulldozing, and assassinations, without the slightest concern or response from these authorities other than empty talk about a ceasefire.”
He affirmed that “the authorities are required to think carefully about the call by Hezbollah’s secretary-general for cooperation on the basis of a joint effort to achieve the five Lebanese demands, by establishing them as constants of the national position and pushing toward a broad national stance in which everyone stands on common ground that restores the land and protects stability.”
