Spanish press reports have revealed a major surprise regarding the future of Spaniard Pep Guardiola, stating that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation is considering the possibility of hiring the legendary coach to lead the "Atlas Lions" in the coming period.
According to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Guardiola’s name has become a subject of interest for several federations and clubs following the official announcement of his departure from Manchester City after a historic ten-year spell, during which the Spanish manager achieved exceptional success and domestic and continental dominance with the English club.
The newspaper said the Moroccan federation sees Guardiola as the ideal figure capable of accelerating Morocco’s football project and cementing the country’s place among the major powers in world football, especially after the significant leap made by the Atlas Lions in recent years.
The reports indicated that the Moroccan federation is closely monitoring the Spanish coach’s situation, amid a desire to continue building a team capable of competing on the global stage, particularly as Morocco approaches hosting the 2030 World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
Despite the considerable buzz surrounding the reports, the matter raises many questions, especially since the Moroccan national team is currently led by coach Mohamed Ouahbi, who has previously affirmed his commitment to a long-term project extending through the 2030 World Cup.
At the same time, the reports said Guardiola is inclined to take a break after the end of his journey with Manchester City, as he wants to step away for a while from the daily pressures, training sessions and matches before deciding on his next move.
