
The Amiri Diwan of the State of Qatar announced on Sunday the death of the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at the age of 74.
In a statement carried by the Qatar News Agency, the Amiri Diwan said: “With hearts believing in God’s will and decree, the Amiri Diwan mourns the nation’s great departed, the late, God willing forgiven, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on the morning of Sunday, 27 Muharram 1448 AH, corresponding to July 12, 2026, at the age of 74.”
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is regarded as one of the most prominent leaders who left a defining mark on the course of the modern State of Qatar. He assumed power for years during which the country witnessed broad political, economic and developmental transformations, before handing over authority to his son, Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in 2013.
