Informed American sources told MTV that President Joseph Aoun’s visit to Washington has opened the door to a new phase of cooperation between Lebanon and the United States, noting that its outcomes were not limited to the political sphere, but also extended to security and economic files that are being developed and translated into practical steps.
The sources explained that discussions have begun on preparing a long-term bilateral security understanding between the two countries, alongside talks on arrangements for the next phase following the end or modification of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), including monitoring and follow-up mechanisms and guarantees linked to stability on the ground.
On the economic side, the sources pointed to US efforts to encourage new investments into the Lebanese market, particularly in vital sectors including energy, telecommunications, technology, and digital transformation, in addition to supporting the reconstruction process and enhancing prospects for economic recovery.
