Le Drian to Lebanon

French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian will visit Lebanon either before or after the blessed Eid al-Adha, reaffirming France’s role in Lebanon.

The French envoy will renew his country’s position calling for an end to the war and for arms to be confined exclusively to the hands of the Lebanese state. Through this visit, he will also stress the importance of the role his country plays in Lebanon—whether through the peacekeeping forces in the south, or UNIFIL, whose mission is set to end at the close of the current year, or through other military forces in which France plays a key role, thereby maintaining its prominent presence in Lebanon.
