A military source said that the Israeli army’s arrival at Beaufort Castle and the raising of the Israeli flag and the Golani Brigade flag فوق its walls constitute a highly significant field and symbolic development. The castle, which rises about 700 meters above sea level, is considered one of the most prominent strategic points in the south.
The source told Al-Anbaa Electronic newspaper that it acquires exceptional importance because it serves as an advanced control and observation point over most of the Israeli advance axes in the central sector, giving the Israeli army greater ability to manage fire, direct ground operations, and monitor movements deep in the south. Its elevated location also overlooks vast areas of northern Israel and a number of border settlements, which explains the military importance both sides have attached to it over past decades.
He said: "From a military standpoint, control of Beaufort Castle, together with the advance in the vicinity of Dibbine to the east, secures for Israel advanced firepower and surveillance over the Marjayoun–Nabatieh road, and opens the way for expanding operations toward Kfartebnit and Ali al-Taher Hill, which fully overlooks the city of Nabatieh. If the Israeli army succeeds in reaching this hill, Nabatieh will come under direct field pressure from several axes. And if the Israeli advance continues from the Dibbine axis toward Blat and Wadi Barghaz, this could threaten one of the most important links between the south and the Bekaa, which constitutes the area’s main logistical and geographical artery. Any further advance toward Jabal al-Rayhan and Iqlim al-Tuffah would also mean that operations have moved to what many observers consider the third and final line of defense in the southern interior."
