
Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam held a government meeting at the Grand Serail, attended by Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Al-Hajjar, several ministers, and regional governors. The meeting focused on monitoring local needs, coordinating government efforts to address the impacts of ongoing waves of displacement, and responding to challenges swiftly and effectively.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the government will not allow any individual or family to remain without shelter, and efforts are underway to provide dignified accommodations for all. The Minister of Education and Higher Education has made schools available for use as shelters as needed by the governors, with the number of opened centers in some areas already exceeding the current requirements to accommodate displaced populations.
In Beirut, the Sports City will be ready to receive a number of displaced persons starting in the afternoon hours.
It was also confirmed that shelters in the northern regions are fully prepared, and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport will provide transportation from Beirut to the north to facilitate access to available centers.
Authorities stressed the importance of dispelling rumors and preventing fear or hostility within the host communities and among the displaced themselves.
On the health front, medical care will be provided to all displaced persons at the expense of the Ministry of Public Health.
Governors updated the Prime Minister on the smooth operation in their regions, and agreements were made to secure essential needs, including fuel supplies.
The Minister of Interior and the General Director of the Internal Security Forces outlined security measures to guide displaced persons, protect shelters, and prevent violations.
Prime Minister Salam emphasized the importance of coordination between the High Relief Commission, governors, the Disaster Management Unit, and relevant ministers to ensure that needs are met promptly. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to provide shelter for all displaced persons, ensuring that no one is left without accommodation.
