
The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, warned in a letter sent on Monday to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the potential consequences of repeated attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, emphasizing the agency’s role in preventing such assaults.
Eslami noted that Bushehr, the only operational nuclear power plant in Iran producing electricity, has been targeted in four attacks so far, the latest on April 4, which resulted in the death of one security personnel and injuries to others.
He cautioned that “such attacks could lead to the release of radioactive materials with potentially irreparable consequences for the population, the environment, and neighboring countries.”
The attacks were described as “a blatant violation of international law,” while Eslami criticized what he called the IAEA’s “inaction in taking decisive measures,” adding that “merely expressing concern is insufficient and will encourage further attacks.”
