Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iran’s ambassador to the country, Mohammad Totonji, and handed him an official protest note over what it described as an infiltration incident carried out by an armed group believed to be affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Bubiyan Island, during which an exchange of fire took place with the Kuwaiti armed forces.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of what it considered a hostile act affecting the state’s sovereignty and security, calling on the Iranian side to immediately and unconditionally halt such movements.
Kuwait also held Tehran fully responsible for the incident, considering it a flagrant assault on Kuwaiti sovereignty and a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, in addition to Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
The ministry affirmed that Kuwait reserves its full right to take the necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and the security of its territory, and to protect its citizens and residents on its soil.
