
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stressed during a press conference the need to swiftly reinforce state authority in the capital, Beirut, alongside an urgent diplomatic move to confront Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Salam emphasized that the current phase requires clear and decisive measures on both the security and political levels, noting that the government has taken a series of decisions aimed at safeguarding internal security and strengthening the presence of state institutions.
He said:
“We must immediately begin strengthening state control over Beirut Governorate and confine weapons to the hands of the state.
We have decided to file an urgent complaint with the UN Security Council against Israel over its attacks on Lebanon.
We have also decided to request the Lebanese Army to deploy its forces and impose its authority in Beirut Governorate to preserve security.
